Random Keyword Phrase Added To End Of Title Tag

    Hi there,

    I hope you are well.

For some reason many of my page title tags have started added a somewhat random keyword phrase at the end.

Many pages that have a relatively short title tag are adding ‘ – web design geelong’ at the end. This is a keyword phrase that my home page is optimised for. But for some reason it is being added automatically to title tags for other pages.

    Any idea why?

    See screenshot – https://ibb.co/d0PhjZX

From the screenshot the title tags are set to from within each page’s Rank Math settings:

    FAQ » Max Jacobs
    Project Portfolio » Max Jacobs
    Contact » Max Jacobs
Cloudways Review [2020] » Max Jacobs

Let me know if you have any questions.

    Kind regards,
    Max

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

That’s completely normal for Google to include your brand name in the title’s automatically – even if you deliberately leave them out from your titles.

Here’s an article mentioning that as well.
    https://seo-gold.com/marcus-lemonis-website-seo-review/google-automatically-adds-brand-name-to-titles/

And a link to Google’s forums with replies from Experts saying that it is like that on purpose:
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/5328043?hl=en&msgid=5328043

If you wish to know Google’s guidelines on writing Good titles, here are the guidelines straight from the horse’s mouth:
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/35624?hl=en

With that said, it largely depends on keyword intent too. For some keyword searches, your custom title might appear while for others – Google might append your brand name to the title and there is nothing you can do to force them to do otherwise. That is regardless of what SEO plugin you use.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for getting back to me and for the clarification.

However, it is not my brand name that is being added. My brand name is ‘Max Jacobs’.

The words being added to the end of some title tags are ‘ – web design geelong’.

I’m pretty sure I have not added this anywhere in the settings.

Again, my brand name is set to ‘Max Jacobs’. So not sure why ‘- web design geelong’ is being added to some title tags.

Any other ideas why this might be happening?

    Thanks in advance.

    Kind regards,
    Max

    Hello,

WEB DESIGN GEELONG appears to be the name/title assigned to you homepage(https://i.rankmath.com/DAxhLk). Google sometimes can ignore the set Brand name and use what appears to be your site name as the brand name. You will need to modify and use your brand name on your site and all pages optimization.

Hope this helps you. Thank you.

    Thank you Michael.

    I understand now.

    You are the best!

    Max
