‘Remove Stop Words’ option missing?

    Hi,

I’ve noticed the ‘remove stop words’ option does not seem to be in my general settings under links.

Has this been temporarily or permanently removed? It seems like a nice useful feature. Or is this no longer relevant for Google?

    Thanks
    Jacky

  • Hello,

Thank you for getting in touch with us.

Please note that some options are only available when you enable the Advanced Mode in Rank Math. We give you an option to choose between the two during the setup wizard and you must have chosen to use the Easy Mode.

You can switch to the Advanced Mode from the top-right corner at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Dashboard

Here is a screenshot for reference:

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I do have the advanced setting open. Which module should be activated to make this appear as it is still not there?

Under links I can see the following:
Strip Category Base, Redirect Attachments, Redirect Orphan Attachments, Nofollow External Links, Nofollow Image File Links, Nofollow Domains, Nofollow Exclude Domains and Open External Links in New Tab/Window.

Tried to add an image but it didn’t seem to work. 🙁

    Kind Regards
    Jacky

    Hello Jacky,

Sorry for the confusion. The Stopwords functionality was removed completely a while ago, as it is not relevant anymore due to the updates like BERT

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hi Michael,

Many thanks for your response. Makes perfect sense. However, are there plans to alter the Rank Math algorithm so that the scoring takes stop words into consideration?

    Kind Regards
    Jacky

    Hello,

Not for now due to not being relevant anymore as my colleague explained. Is there any reason why you would like them? (So we can study about its implementation)

    Looking forward to help you.

    Hi Alberto,
Sorry I probably wasn’t being very clear.

At present in posts to score well you need the stated keyword to match precisely what is in the text. For example, you may want to rank for the keyword ‘pigeons in house’ but obviously the text will include stop words to read better such as:

    pigeons in your house
    pigeons in the house

I don’t believe these phrases are picked up when scoring the page? If that is the case as it appears at present, are there any plans to intelligently ignore stop words in the actual content when calculating the score for a page?

    Thanks
    Jacky

    Hello,

Currently, Rank Math looks for the exact match of the focus keyword. We look for the phrase exactly like you type it in the focus keyword. If there is a variation, Rank Math will not be able to detect it.

This is something we are working on improving though. A future update of Rank Math will have much more enhanced detection engine.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
