Hello,
We apologize for the issue you are facing with the Canonical URL field being greyed out in Rank Math. This can happen for a few reasons, such as if the post type does not support custom canonical URLs or if there are conflicting settings.
Here are a few steps you can try to resolve this:
- Check Post Type: Ensure that the post type you are working on supports custom canonical URLs. Some custom post types may have restrictions.
- Plugin Conflicts: Deactivate other plugins temporarily to see if there is a conflict causing the field to be greyed out.
- Theme Compatibility: Sometimes, themes can interfere with plugin functionalities. Switch to a default WordPress theme to check if the issue persists.
- Clear Cache: If you are using any caching plugins, clear the cache and check again.
If none of these solutions work, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further. Thank you for raising this concern!

Hi, the error is:
Alternate page with proper canonical tagIts found on 9 pages, iam not saying it was rankmath fault I used other plugins before maybe it was it anyway.
I have the page url, I can see in the html, the tag is there, but I don’t see any options on rankmath to deal with canonicals ideally would be never apply the tag unless the user would select it as a duplicate contentHello,
Kindly share some of the affected URLs with us.
We look forward to hearing back from you.
Thanks.

Aug 20, 2024Hello,
Those URLs are reported to have the canonical pointed in the main page (without the RSS parameter), so those are not issues and the report is correct.
In your Google Search Console, you should use the URL inspection tool of your GSC account to inspect those URLs and check the referring page where they are coming from.
Once you know their referring page, you can remove or update them so Google won’t discover those kinds of URLs.
Looking forward to helping you.
Thanks, will figure it out now
