This is a significant problem with the Rank Math plugin. My three new sites are experiencing this issue, and many others are reporting the same problem in the Facebook Rank Math group. Despite numerous complaints, the Rank Math team has yet to resolve this issue. Several of my friends are also facing the same problem. I have followed the setup guidelines and blog posts provided by Rank Math, but the issue remains unresolved. Please address this problem as soon as possible.

Hello,
We apologize for the issue you are facing with Google displaying the URL instead of your site name. This can be frustrating, especially when you’ve followed the setup guidelines.
To address this issue, it’s important to ensure that your site name is correctly set in several key locations that Google checks:
-
Homepage Title Tag: Make sure your site name is entered in the Site Title field under WordPress Dashboard → Settings.
-
H1 Header Tag: If your homepage is set to display a static page, ensure that the page title includes your site name. You can edit this under WordPress Dashboard → Pages.
-
Structured Data: Enable the Schema module in Rank Math by navigating to Rank Math SEO → Schema and fill in the required fields under Rank Math SEO → Titles & Meta → Local SEO.
-
Open Graph Metadata: Ensure that your Open Graph metadata includes your site name.
After making these changes, it may take some time for Google to reindex your site. You can expedite this process by requesting indexing through the Google Search Console or using Rank Math’s Instant Indexing feature if configured.
If you continue to experience issues after following these steps, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further. Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention, and we appreciate your patience as we work to resolve it.

Why Google Displays URL Instead of Site Name in SERP? » Rank MathHello,
Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Please note that this is not a technical issue that we can fix from our end. There are various sources that Google uses to define your site name on SERPs including:
- og:site_name meta tag
- WebSite structured data
- Content in
title
elements - Heading elements
Among them, Rank Math automatically includes the
og:site_name
meta tag and the WebSite Schema on your website, and the rest you’ll have to include manually. You can also check the Google documentation on site-name: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/appearance/site-namesHowever, as is mentioned in the documentation, this process is automated by the algorithm and even though it takes into account the information on the website, it is still not guaranteed that your site name will come up correctly in Google SERPs since it’s solely decided by Google what they found relevant and user-friendly and which one they want to show.
Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.
Thank you.I followed all the steps correctly, but the issue remains unresolved. The site URL is still showing, and the meta description snippet is not displaying as expected. I’m considering disabling Rank Math SEO to see if that fixes the problem.
Hello,
Please note that it is common for Google to do this nowadays. Even when everything is fine, Google may choose to display a different meta title and description for a search result. You can follow this URL for details on this issue: https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/
Please check the KB and you will understand the reasons Google does this.
Google has made some changes to their algorithm which automatically changes the titles, discarding the one you have set in your SEO title meta tag. This happens regardless of the SEO plugin you are using. We have covered this Google update here:
https://rankmath.com/google-update/google-title-rewrite-update/
Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
Thank you.
This problem occurs only in Rank Math. Other plugins, like Yoast SEO and All in One SEO, do not have this issue.
Hello,
Can you please confirm if the sitename changed after you disabled Rank Math and used a different SEO plugin?
If so, please enable Rank Math again and share the affected website URL here so we can take a closer look.
Looking forward to helping you.
“I use the Kadence theme and have disabled the page titles because the site name already appears on my homepage. Does this seem to be causing the issue?”
ue.
Hello,
Those are the settings for the content of the page which is controlled by the theme, in this case, Kadence.
The content of the pages, such as the titles and the actual main content play a role in the meta description chosen by Google but really that’s mostly handled by the search term in conjunction with the meta description settings from the SEO plugin you are using.
As mentioned before, the meta description can be changed automatically by the algorithm if it believes there’s a better one suited for the search term being used.
As for the site title, that will only show if Google believes that the title is in accordance with the website. For example, if you use a very generic name such as
Best Repair Services
for the site name, that won’t show.If you want us to check whether or not the technical aspects are correct please share the website URL so we can further.
Thank you.
