This usually happens when there’s a conflict with the theme you are using. Sometimes, the theme provider tries to add a meta title besides the wp_head generation hook which causes the duplication because our plugin uses the same hook for all the metadata.
If you have trouble debugging this you can share working WordPress credentials in the sensitive data section and our team will advise further after debugging.

but if inspect the code for the site, both of the title tag seems to be added by the rankmath plugin, would this be caused by the theme as well?

Yes, it could be caused by the theme if it adds a title tag besides also calling the hook we mentioned before.
