We are utilizing RankMath’s SEO Analyzer to enhance our website’s SEO performance. According to the SEO Analyzer our home page is 232 kb and it recommends keeping it below 50 Kb for optimal performance.

We are seeking guidance on specific steps to reduce the page size to meet the recommended threshold.

    Details:

    Website Platform: WordPress
    Theme: Avada Theme
Optimization Plugins: Hummingbird Pro (used for minification, stripping HTML of whitespace, etc.)

    Additional Information:

Our homepage contains 782 DOM elements, which is below Google’s threshold of 850 elements considered “excessive.”
Despite using Hummingbird Pro to optimize the HTML, CSS and js the page size remains significantly above the recommended 50 Kb.

    Steps Taken:

We have removed unnecessary tags and developer comments from the markup.
We have minimized the use of inline CSS but acknowledge that there might be too much inline CSS causing bloat.
We have tried to reduce CSS repetition by using HTML class and ID attributes to target elements efficiently.
White space has been stripped from the templates or themes to reduce the HTML page’s size.

    Request:

Despite taking these steps, we have not achieved the desired page size reduction. Could you please provide detailed guidance on what additional actions we need to take to reduce our page size to meet RankMath’s recommended size? Any insights or additional tools that could help us achieve this would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you for your assistance.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the issue you are facing with your page size. Thank you for providing detailed information about your current setup and the steps you’ve already taken to optimize your homepage.

To further reduce your page size and meet Rank Math’s recommended threshold of 50 Kb, consider the following additional actions:

    1. Optimize Images: Ensure that all images on your homepage are optimized for web use. Use tools like TinyPNG or ImageOptim to compress images without losing quality. Consider using next-gen formats like WebP for better compression.

    2. Lazy Loading: Implement lazy loading for images and videos. This means that media will only load when it comes into the viewport, reducing initial page size and load time.

    3. Reduce External Resources: Check if there are any external scripts or stylesheets that can be removed or combined. Each external request adds to the page size and load time.

    4. Review Plugins: Sometimes, plugins can add unnecessary bloat. Review the plugins you are using and deactivate any that are not essential. Consider replacing heavy plugins with lighter alternatives.

    5. Minify and Combine CSS/JS: While you mentioned using Hummingbird Pro, ensure that you are also combining CSS and JavaScript files where possible. This reduces the number of requests made by the browser.

    6. Use a Content Delivery Network (CDN): A CDN can help serve your content faster and may also provide optimization features that can reduce page size.

    7. Audit Inline CSS: Since you mentioned inline CSS might be causing bloat, consider moving critical inline styles to an external stylesheet and only keeping essential styles inline.

    8. Remove Unused CSS/JS: Use tools like PurifyCSS or UnCSS to remove unused CSS from your stylesheets. Similarly, audit your JavaScript files to eliminate any unused code.

    9. Optimize Fonts: If you are using web fonts, ensure that you are only loading the character sets and styles that you need. Consider using system fonts where possible to reduce load times.

    10. Check for Render-Blocking Resources: Identify any render-blocking resources that could be delaying the rendering of your page. Tools like Google PageSpeed Insights can help identify these issues.

By implementing these strategies, you should see a reduction in your page size. If you continue to experience issues, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.

Best of luck with your optimization efforts!
