I’ve noticed in Google Search Console that those images in WebP format are crawled but not indexed. How can I resolve this issue and ensure these images get indexed? Additionally, these images don’t appear in my sitemap generated by RankMath. What steps can I take to resolve these errors and improve indexing?

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issue you are facing with WebP image indexing in Google Search Console. To troubleshoot and resolve this problem, you can follow these steps:

    1. Check the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console

    • Use the URL Inspection Tool in Google Search Console to check the status of the WebP images. If they are marked as "Crawled – currently not indexed," it might be a reporting difference issue.

    2. Ensure Proper Indexing

    • To inform search engines to index your WebP images instantly, you can use Rank Math’s Instant Indexing feature. Enable the Instant Indexing module in Rank Math SEO settings and submit the WebP images for indexing.

    3. Verify Sitemap Inclusion

    • Check if the WebP images are included in your sitemap generated by Rank Math. If they are missing, you can manually add them to the sitemap to ensure they are discovered and indexed by search engines.

    4. Request Indexing

    • If the WebP images are still not indexed after following the above steps, you can request indexing for these images in Google Search Console. Select the URL of the image and click on the Request Indexing button.

For more detailed instructions on how to fix indexing issues and improve the visibility of your WebP images, please feel free to reach out to our support team. We are here to assist you further.

Thank you for bringing this concern to our attention.

    Best regards.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

The images are only supposed to be indexed in Image Search, and they shouldn’t be submitted to the GSC account as in Google Search Console, the indexing report is for HTML pages, not for the images.

However, even though Google has discovered your image files and crawled them, they are not supposed to be indexed in the normal search results, and that’s why they are in the Crawled – Currently not Indexed status.

You can ignore the status, as the images shouldn’t be indexed in the normal search results.

Regarding the images on Sitemap, Rank Math automatically includes the images added to your pages by using the <image:image> tag:

You can also check the source code of your post/page sitemap to make sure if the images are added or not.

Hope that helps and please don’t hesitate to let us know if you have any other questions.

    Thank you.

    Got it and thanks.
