Hi there, I’m currently using your plugin for my site newsportalnp.com and I uninstalled WP Supercache plugin after noticing it’s affecting my site negatively by causing so many errors since it somehow started altering urls by adding characters at the end like /preload, /image.jpg, /image-source, adding source website links, and many others which resulted to numerous 404 errors on indexed pages. Even after uninstalling the the plugin, the .htaccess file still contain directives and instructions of the plugin. I wanted this to be solved from your end since I’m not able to edit the file.

I also noticed that the directory listing of my site is also causing 404 errors, and although I’ve been able to manually redirect many of these errors, I’d like to know if you can help in solving this issue too by removing the directory listing details from indexing or guide me on how to do so. Thanks.

  • Hello,

I apologize for the issues you are facing with the .htaccess file and the 404 errors on your site newsportalnp.com. It seems like the uninstalled WP Supercache plugin is still affecting your site even after removal.

To address the .htaccess file containing directives from the uninstalled plugin, you can follow these steps:

    1. Navigate to your WordPress Dashboard.

    2. Go to Rank Math SEO > General Settings > Edit .htaccess.

    3. Check if there are any directives related to the WP Supercache plugin in the .htaccess file. If you find any, you can delete them by selecting the checkbox next to the warning and removing the redirection rules causing the issue.

      Remove redirection rules causing errors

    4. Click the Save Changes button to save the modifications.

If you are unable to edit the .htaccess file or need further assistance, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you accordingly.

Regarding the directory listing causing 404 errors, you can prevent directory listing by adding the following line to your .htaccess file:

    Options -Indexes

This will disable directory listing on your website and help prevent 404 errors caused by directory listings.

If you need further guidance or assistance, feel free to reach out by replying to this ticket.

Thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention. We are here to help you resolve these issues.

    Warm regards.

Unfortunately from my dashboard there’s no checkbox to allow editing of the file.

    Hello,

This checkbox issue has already been reported to our developers, and a fix will be released in the next plugin update.

It is already included in our beta updates here: https://rankmath.com/changelog/beta/

Meanwhile, you may edit your .htaccess file directly from your web host/cPanel.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Hi, is there a way you can do it from your end since I’m not conversant with coding and editing it from the main site code might mess everything up. Also, in regards to the directory listing, can you add the code required from your end also?
