Hello,
I apologize for the issue you are facing with Rank Math. To prevent unwanted URLs from being created for images and to address the noindex meta tag issue, you can follow these steps:
-
Unwanted Image URL Creation:
- Rank Math does not create URLs for images by default. If you are experiencing this issue, it might be due to a misconfiguration or conflict.
- Check if any other plugins installed on your website are causing this behavior. You can follow the steps outlined in our knowledgebase article to check for other redirection plugins: Check for Other Redirection Plugins Installed.
- If you find any other redirect plugins, delete them immediately and check if the issue persists.
-
Noindex Meta Tag Issue:
- To prevent images from having a noindex meta tag, ensure that your images are set to be indexable.
- You can review the settings in Rank Math related to image indexing. If you have set any specific rules or configurations that might be causing this, you can adjust them accordingly.
- Additionally, ensure that there are no conflicting settings in other SEO or image optimization plugins that might be affecting the indexing of images.
If after following these steps the issues persist, please reply to this ticket, and a human agent from the Rank Math Support team will assist you further.
Thank you for bringing this matter to our attention.

Hello,
Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Rank Math does not create URLs for images by default. If you are experiencing this issue, it might be caused by another plugin. Check if any other plugins installed on your website are causing this behaviour by following this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/
When you upload a media file to the WordPress Media Library, WordPress creates a separate media attachment page for each individual file, and having the attachment pages as “noindex” or redirecting to the parent page is actually the preferred method to handle those and we mention the same here: https://rankmath.com/kb/should-you-redirect-attachments/
In essence, this means that there’s nothing to worry about the attachment pages as the images from the website can and will still be indexed, it’s just the attachment pages, which don’t hold any SEO value, that will not get indexed.
However, if you still want to index your attachment pages then you can set them to index from WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Title & Meta > Post Types: Attachments > Media Robots Meta:

Or follow the guide here: https://rankmath.com/kb/titles-and-meta/#media-robots-meta
Hope that helps and do not hesitate to get back to us if you need assistance with anything else.
Thank you.
