I have got the Sitemap couldn’t be fetched error in Google Search Console. The website was being indexed for months and suddenly this error occurred. I went through your knowledge base. Iknow about the google bug and I have tried other SEO Plugins too but it’s all giving errors. Moreover, Most of the links are still indexed but only the home page is not getting indexed. I think something is blocking google’s access to my website as google had removed my website from “Google my business ” data too. I have been trying to do it from the past 2 weeks but same results.

All the help would be very much appreciated.

  • Hello,

    Thanks for contacting support!

If Google is unable to fetch the Sitemap is a bug on their end. Please read here
    https://support.google.com/webmasters/thread/3280971?hl=en

It’s happening with other SEO plugins as well.

The most prominent reason behind that seems to be the introduction of the Indexing API
    https://rankmath.com/blog/google-indexing-api/
Google has plans to drop the use of Sitemaps and allow indexing API.

With that said, if your Sitemap is opening fine and online tools, such as the below one, shows no error, you should be fine
    https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html
With that said, always submit only the index of the Sitemap, which looks like this
    https://rankmath.com/sitemap_index.xml

Let me know if that helps in any way.

Hi, sorry, It doest helps me in any way. You just copied and pasted what you did for all others, you didn’t see what I wrote in the query.

I said “links are getting indexed but home page is not getting indexed.

I also said that I know about the google bug but I am having problem for over 20 days now.

Adding a second Slash is also not working.

My page is not being fetched in the mobile-friendly test also.

I was hoping you would have a ready-made solution as many of your users would be facing the same issue.

    Hello,

You should check your homepage and ensure you have not set the noindex option and that it is included in the sitemap. You can also use this tool to check if your URL is set to index: https://smallseotools.com/meta-tags-analyzer/ and validate your sitemap URLs here: https://www.xml-sitemaps.com/validate-xml-sitemap.html

If you want to check these details from our end, please share with us your site URL in the sensitive section.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Your homepage is being indexed by Google just fine, check the screenshot I have added in the sensitive section. If it seems to be missing for a specific keyword, you will need to optimize your page with both onpage and offpage SEO tools to add ranking to your page.

As for your sitemap, everything seems fine. It is likely just the ‘not fetching’ bug from Google.

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know. Thank you.

Thank You. I made it work yesterday. It was a hosting issue. The LiteSpeed server has blocked the google bots in their firewall. I had done everything from my end So it could only be a hosting issue.

My hosting providers agreed to solve the issue and were helpful. They moved the websites to a different server and then google had proper access to it.

Thank you for the help. Best wishes.
