I am getting the following error in my dashboard and as a result, the website is going into the dreaded white screen of death.
This plugin failed to load properly and is paused during recovery mode.
An error of type E_COMPILE_ERROR was caused in line 11 of the file /home/***/public_html/wp-content/plugins/seo-by-rank-math1/includes/modules/sitemap/class-sitemap-index.php. Error message: Namespace declaration statement has to be the very first statement or after any declare call in the script
Deactivating Rank temporarily appears to fix the problem. Any insights?

Could you please delete and reinstall the plugin on your site.
If the issue persists, assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.
To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
