Two met tags showing, Google ignoring both

    Rank Math free

I checked support and did not find this exact issue with WP and Rankmath.
I am not sure this is specific to Rank Math but we are using your product on our site and we are getting the rankmath met and then another one from the website itself.

We ran a health check on psglaebls.com site, (through our ahrefs subscription) and noticed we have 53 urls with 2 meta descriptions. (there should only be one)
Problem: we have noticed our meta descriptions rarely, if ever, show up on the SERP. Wondering if this conflict is causing that? The rankmath is seen higher but the warning is that the two will confuse google which it has and on many pages just takes the first few phrase of HTML text instead of nay provided meta tags.

I have attached the two spots that are causing the issue.

It’s definitely something with the tagline field in WP that’s causing the issue (in general settings). I deleted the copy in there and did another crawl. Same issue…only without any description. Which still creates issue.
Do you know of. safe way to hide the WP native meta so RANKMATH is the only one seen?

Would we get more control with these?

Client is very motivated to get this fixed as he is avidly pushing his SEO and would love to see a fix.
If paid help is required we are totally open to that. 🙂 You have been a great help and we have started adding your code to every site we create.

  • Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

Unfortunately our support team are from different countries, is it possible to disable this feature temporarily?

    1. First of all, I am assuming that you have already changed the SEO Meta Title and Meta Description with the help of Rank Math:
Add a Meta Description in Classic Editor:

Add title and description in Gutenberg:

    2. Then, ensure that this is the setting in the Schema tab if Rich Snippets are enabled on your website:

To reiterate, the Schema title must show %seo_title% and the description should show %seo_description% – this will ensure your SEO title and SEO Description that you set up via Rank Math can also be used for your schema details.

The extra meta may be added by your theme or one of the installed plugins. strong>Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Please let us know if you find the culprit.

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Michael thank you for your response!!!

I did double check the settings. We are using classic editor with WP bakery so it is a little different…. But our settings seem right. I also went through the setup wizard again to be sure. Should the site still be adding the default meta if your plugin is active?

I have taking most of europe off the ban list in IQ Country block.
If it is still an issue I can shut it off for a day.
🙂 forms and online chat were getting spammed heavily past month.
Not sure if you will see this until tonight so I will shut it off at end of business day.

    Hello,

I was able to access your site. The extra description was added by the following line in your theme header.php(line 19). I removed this to fix the issue.

    <meta name="description" content="<?php bloginfo('description'); ?>">

Rank math adds the meta through the wp_head() function. Your theme seems to have had the description tag hard coded to the header file in addition to calling the wp_head function resulting to two meta descriptions. You can use this tool: https://www.heymeta.com/ to confirm if the data set through Rank math is added correctly to your page.

Hope that helps. If you have any further question(s), please let us know. Thank you.

Bless you. I appreciate it and can’t wait for the pro version to come out! big fan!
