Keep in mind that CPC is just some approximation but not always it is like that, if it shows $0, it could be some days $0 and some days $3 without any problem. Also, you can monetize by CPM, so you are paid for every 1000 visits.
Huge websites rank for thousands of keywords, some of them with CPC $0 and others with high CPC. But since they have a lot of UV (unique visitors), they can negotiate with ad companies (and brands) for better payments when showing ads on the website.

You can approach companies via their websites to ask to be direct advertisers.
