Strip category broke my parent product category urls

I see quite a few people are having this issue. I have read a lot of posts tonight and tried all of the suggestions (save permalinks 2x, toggle strip category on and off, clear browser and CDN cache, add php snippet to automatically update permalinks, deactivate plugins etc…) none of it worked. When I toggled that setting on, something permanetely broke those urls. It wouldn’t even work if I togged the strip category back off AND deactivated rankmath. And get this, half of those links were dynamically linked in Elementor. They weren’t even written urls. I had to rename all of my parent product categories to get the urls to work again because both with and without category was returning a 404 and redirecting to the home page. Bummer! Thought you should know because that sucks.

  • Hello,

We apologize for the inconvenience you’ve experienced with the Strip Category Base option in Rank Math. We understand that this has caused a significant issue with your parent product category URLs, and we’re sorry for the frustration it has caused.

We appreciate you bringing this to our attention. We’ll make sure to escalate this issue to our development team for further investigation. In the meantime, we recommend disabling the Strip Category Base option to restore your parent product category URLs.

If you need further assistance or have any other questions, please feel free to let us know.

Thank you for escalating this. Disabling the strip category base did not fix the issue. I had to rename all of my parent product category urls to get them working again. Even the dynamically linked ones would not work until the urls were renamed. Hopefully that can figure out what happened. I’d be happy to provide access to the site if they’d like to take a look too.

    Hello,

    Thank you for your patience.

Please share the affected URLs (old and new) so we can check as well.

Also, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.
