This means that Google will ignore the duplicate page and only index the original one. This is not necessarily a bad thing, as long as you have chosen the correct canonical URL for your homepage. As for the “Discovered – currently not indexed” issue, it may or may not be related to the canonical issue. This status means that Google has found your page but has not decided whether to index it or not. There could be many reasons for this, such as:
- Your page is new and Google has not crawled it yet.
- Your page is low-quality or thin content and Google does not consider it valuable for users.
- Your page is blocked by robots.txt, noindex tag, or password protection.
- Your page has technical issues such as slow loading speed, broken links, or redirects.
You can use the URL Inspection tool in Google Search Console to check the status of your page and see if there are any errors or warnings that prevent it from being indexed. You can also request indexing for your page if you think it is ready to be crawled by Google.
