how to choose focus keyword for single product page

Hi, I’m a bit confused with Focus keyword. I understood how it works. However my case is as follows:
I have 4 products that are all massage guns: massage gun 1, massage gun 2…
I’m using the focus keyword “massage gun” for all 4 products and am getting a notification for using the same focus keyword for multiple products.
So how should I set the focus keyword for each product? Keep using the old way or change to that specific product name. Example: “massage gun + Brandname + product name”

My customers usually only search for products with the keyword “massage gun”, very few people search with “Brandname + product name”.

All 4 of these products are in the “massage gun” product category and I did SEO for that category as well.

    Thank you

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math for help with selecting the best keyword for your products.

In cases where you have a keyword shared across multiple posts, the best strategy is to create more specific keywords for each post. These are called long-tail keywords. Your example “massage gun + Brandname + product name” is also a good example of long-tail keywords. You can read more about long-tail keywords in the following article: https://ahrefs.com/blog/long-tail-keywords/.

Note, just because you have used a longer keyword it doesn’t mean that your products will automatically stop ranking for the shorter keyword. In fact, your products will rank for both the long and short versions of your keyword which should bring you more coverage/traffic in general.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.

Hi Nigel, thanks for your reply.
Like you said, what should i do now? Remove my short keyword (massage gun) in all products and replace with long-tail keyword; or i just add new long-tail KW and keep the old one? (I can purchase pro version to do that). And with the 2nd option, which KW i should set primary?
    Thanks you

    Hello,

In this case, you can go with the 2nd option. Just set the long tail keyword as your Primary focus keyword and add the “massage gun” as a secondary keyword.

Yes, the feature to re-order the keywords are only available in the PRO version:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/what-is-a-focus-keyword/#reordering-focus-keywords

However, in the Free version, you can simply remove all the added focus keywords and then add them once again.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

Thank for your help, I will purchase pro version to do this
