Sitemap showing translated pages which are not visible to customers

I have a sitemap that is generated with Rankmath. My website uses WPML for languages and your website states that Rankmath and WPML are compatible.

One of the languages I am in the middle of translating is Hungarian. It is not “live”. Customers cannot see this language. But on my sitemap the product categories with domain.com/hu/category/XXX are showing.

I am now manually removing them based on their ID but it seems like I am doing something wrong… is it normal that these show up on the sitemap?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

For initial troubleshooting, please make sure that your sitemap is not getting cached. Please follow these steps:

    1. Ensure you’re using the latest version of your plugins/theme including the Rank Math plugin.

    2. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/xXXhDt

    3. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

If the issue still persists, could you please install the WPML SEO glue plugin as well (if not yet)? It’s available on your WPML Downloads page:
    https://wpml.org/compatibility/2021/04/wpml-seo-plugin-better-integration-with-seo-plugins/

Let us know how this goes.

    Thank you.

thanks. I followed all your instructions above including installing the WPML SEO glue plugin. I deleted all my caching and still some of the /hu/ pages are showing though this language is not active on my site.

Anything else I can check or do to try to fix this?

    Hello,

Please add this filter code to your theme’s functions.php file:

    add_filter( 'rank_math/sitemap/enable_caching', '__return_false');

You may refer to this guide on how to add filters to your website: https://rankmath.com/kb/wordpress-hooks-actions-filters/

After following all those steps, please check your sitemap again.

If the issue persists, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.

Thank you. I used the snippet but it did not make a change. I sent you login information through the sensitive Data field. Please let me know if that is enough.

    Best,
    Judith

    Hello,

It seems like you’ve forgotten to add your WordPress login page URL. Can you please share the login URL in the sensitive data section so we can check this issue further for you?

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

If you check the product categories in the backend, there are currently 44 published categories for the Hungarian language:

Even if the URLs are not working in the front end, they are saved in the database and that’s why our plugin is adding them to the sitemap. You will have to remove them or set them as Noindex to remove them from the sitemap.

Hope that helps. Let us know if you need any other assistance.

Ok thanks. Yes they are published because I am mid getting the translations done to Hungarian but it is not complete….

I am already excluding dozens of pages and categories by their individual IDs… it would be helpful if Rankmath can make an easier interface for excluding things. But fine. for now I will have to do it manually.

    Thanks for checking into this.

    Hello,

We are glad that we could address your concern. At the moment, the only way to temporarily exclude them from the sitemap is to set them to no index or exclude them in the sitemap’s general settings.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Thank you.
