I just went into “rotots.txt” in cPanel.
I found this:
User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /nogooglebot/
User-agent: *
Allow: /
Sitemap: https://ourbigescape.com//sitemap_index.xml
I removed the 2nd / to now read:
Sitemap: https://ourbigescape.com/sitemap_index.xml
but it still goes to homepage.

I checked your sitemap and it seems that the /?sitemap=1 is loading perfectly fine and the issue is only with the /sitemap_index.xml.
The sitemap generates on the fly in Rank Math, when you enable that module. We rely on redirects enabled by your server software to accomplish that. As the Sitemap doesn’t work in your case, you may have to add some rewrite rules to them in order to function sitemaps properly.
To rewrite /?sitemap=1 to sitemap_index.xml, please follow the guide I’ve shared below:

If that seems to be complicated for you, please get in touch with your hosting provider to see if they can do that for you.
However I can see that in your robots.txt, still there is an extra / in the sitemap URL. If you’ve already removed that one, then please try to clear the cache of your website.
