Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention.
Since Rank Math Table of Contents block only works with your Table of Contents, you’ll need to add the numbers before each heading manually in your content.
Hope that helps, and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
Thank you.
Noted, with thanks.
Kindly advise (if OK by you) how I can get nice numbers before the heading as Math Rank does (ref image above).
Hello,
As mentioned earlier, you may try adding the numbers to those headings manually and after that you try using the custom CSS code to see if that works for you.
Besides, here’s another guide for you that you may try following to see if that helps:

Looking forward to helping you.
Thank you.
Hi,
Thanks for the info. Not looking for a system for how to give numbers to a post like a link in the article shows. Still, good to know in the case will need in the future. I am looking for a way to give the headings, like H2, and H3, the corresponding numbers used in TOC. I am used that the TOC usually doing this automatically (like TOC block from Rehub theme and Spectra).
Two questions:
1/ is it on the roadmap to do so? If not, may I ask if it can be?
2/ As for now, what is the CSS code for automatically adding the corresponding numbers used in the TOC to the related header, and where to put it?
Looking forward to your reply.
Thanks
Hello,
1. Yes, this is not something we currently have. At the moment there are no plans to introduce this but we’ll share this feedback with our developers and if it’s something that can be added to the plugin we’ll also inform you of the same.
2. You may need to add the number manually to your headings in this case, then use CSS to modify that part. To achieve this, please follow this screencast for your guide:
https://i.rankmath.com/v/wrnb8t
Note that it still depends on the theme you’re using and you may need to further customize the CSS on your site.
Hope that helps.
Thank you.
Thanks for the excellent video and update. Now have a clear direction of how it can be done, but need to think about how I will proceed. I do the writing in WordPress and not in Word.
Correct me if I am wrong, but if I want to do changes and move one part with a numbered heading in the beginning to for example the end of the post, the number sequence needs to manually be corrected for all headings. If one has a long article this can be much work and one can make mistakes with the numbering.
So for now, I will continue using Rank Math TOC. Maybe do more testing with and without numbers (but do not feel good about having numbers that are not automatically corresponding), and see how this will work out.
Great thanks for all your help.
