There is a way with Rankmath to preview the meta description of the homepage?

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

    1. For initial trouble shooting, could you please follow this guide to check for Plugin conflicts and errors in your console: https://rankmath.com/kb/meta-data-not-saving/#plugin-conflicts

Or, you may follow this guide: https://rankmath.com/kb/settings-not-saved/

    2. If you are using a live staging environment, you can click here (https://www.heymeta.com/) to check the Preview of the Meta description. If you are using your local installation, you will only be able to see the example as shown here: https://ibb.co/2YdMwkZ.

Hope this helps to solve the issue.

    Thanks for your reply,

Well the meta description seems it get to be saved, infact when I check “inspection” I can find the meta description in the code. However, when I go to find my own page on google it still doesn’t display it, it could be just that google may need time before it update the meta description?

    Hello,

Even if you have the correct meta description and title set up exactly how you want is entirely up to the Google algorithm to decide whether it will show that or not depending on the search term and location.

Here’s an article where we go over this situation: https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/

Also, recently Google changed the way it outputs the titles on SERPs and you can read more about it here: https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2021/08/update-to-generating-page-titles

    Thanks for your reply.

So if I try to edit my snippet, how long will take for google to show it on the serp? If it is effective immediately at least I can try different version of snipped and see if it works for google or not.

    Hello,

You can monitor the Google cache and check if your website has been crawled:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/#page-not-indexed

Unfortunately, there’s no definite time for Google to recrawl your site. According to Google guidelines, crawling can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks. The crawling and indexing of the website depend on the authority and crawl budget of the website.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

So this mean that the meta description is update only when the website is crawled then? So there is no way I can know in advance if the modify of my meta description will be used by google or not?

Anyway looking at the tutorial you sent me, how it is happening that there are that dots(screenshot) in the serp? It need to abilitate some function to make that dots to appear? And also if a page haven’t been index how can I find it on the serp?

    Hello,

‘So this mean that the meta description is update only when the website is crawled then?’
Yes, Google can find the new metadata only after crawling the latest version of your site.

‘So there is no way I can know in advance if the modify of my meta description will be used by google or not?’
No there is no way to know that. It is completely Google’s decision if they want to show the title & description set by you in the SERPs.

The dots are there to help users get more details about the search results and you can’t remove them.

If a page has not been indexed you will not find it in SERP. Google first crawls your site and then indexes it. To accurately check if your URLs have been indexed, you can use this tool: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/9012289

Hope this helps to clarify your doubts. Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
