Source URL’s in 404 monitor not related to my site

I have many errors in my 404 monitor tool and some of the source URL’s have nothing to do with my site. The source URL with the most hits isn’t relate to my site at all so I’m confused as to why it’s a common URL. Should I delete it or look more into it? I wouldn’t be able to redirect it to anything since I haven’t written about anything related to that source URL.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Are you using an expired domain? It might be the cause you get those 404 errors, since somewhere you could have backlinks with that URL linking to your site.

You can ignore them or even better, you could set up a redirection to the home page.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

No my domain isn’t expired. I purchased it pretty recently. I might redirect them to my home page if you think that’s a good idea. Should I do that with all of the source URL’s that I don’t recognize to be something in my site? (I have 90 errors) For example, there’s one called “download”. What should I do with that? Also thanks so much for your reply

    Hello,

Yes, if you know that URL is a broken link (for example if it was an old post you deleted) is recommended to redirect to a related post but since those URLs are not created by you, the best option is to redirect them to the homepage.

    Hope it helps.
