Indexing PDF files

I have turned off the media attachment redirect setting and now the attachment page is opening fine. But I am facing a problem in the search console.

Google is unable to test live URL of the PDF file I have in the media library. I have it set to index in the meta section but it doesn’t seem to work.

Also, how can I set the default meta of all attachments to no index and then manually choose he ones I want indexed?

  • Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

The URL you shared in the sensitive data section is the direct PDF. It has nothing to do with the attachment settings. The attachment page would be a page on your website with the media (PDF in this case) embedded into your page.

You can make something (individual page) indexable from the advanced tab:
    null

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

I am not sure if this applies to me bu I need to noindex PDFS that are linked from password protected pages. Is there a way of doing this? (I know yoast has that option when viewing PDFs in the media library but I am not sure how to do it in rankmath)

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

The same process applies to you. You can noindex the attachment when editing it from the Media library as shown below:

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Thanks MIchael!

Appreciate the response, and the screenshot. Unfortunately there is no rank math panel when I go into the media library and edit a pdf.

Probably simple as I am new to rankmath so any thoughts on this would be great!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

That’s quite odd. Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Please let us know if you find the culprit.

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

    Looking forward to helping you.
