Hello. I have a complex issue with the sitemaps. I was using WordPress and RankMath was the plugin for the sitemaps. I love RankMath! However, I’ve migrated the site to a customized CMS and no longer use RankMath.
A few months ago I deleted all of the sitemaps on Google Search Console. And WordPress was deleted.
Here’s the issue. I have a directory with 1+ million professionals. The URL for the directory before the migration was thebuildermarket.com/directory and now it’s thebuildermarket.com/pros. Even though all of the sitemaps have been deleted, Google is still indexing pages with the /directory prefix. I’ve also enabled IndexNow on Bing and every single day Bing is receiving submissions with URLs with the /directory prefix.
This makes me wonder if RankMath has published the original sitemaps? How do we delete the prior sitemaps? Is it possible for you to purge all of the data from the plugin?
I’ve submitted a temporary removal on Google for thebuildermarket.com/directory, but the pages are still indexed.
What would you suggest needs to be done to purge all /directory URLs with Google?
Thank you for your help!
