SEO for Video Only Posts

    Hi Rank Math Team,

I recently shifted away from Yoast to Rank Math, and had a few questions around optimizing posts that have no content, but only an embedded YouTube video link from my channel.

I currently have used the Rank Math Rich Featured Video snippet, but am unsure of how to optimize the post, pass the SEO score ratings with no content, etc.

How would you go about efficiently optimizing a post with ONLY the video, and no content? I have about 150+ of these video posts that I need to optimize, so I’m looking for the most efficient, smartest, but also effective way of doing so.

    Thanks!
    Emily

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

The SEO tests + score is only a checklist and should not be followed religiously for all posts. In your case where the post is only made up of videos then you can ignore the tests since Rank Math will translate the post content to search engines and let them know that the post is video via the rich snippet.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi Michael,

Thanks for the response. A couple follow up questions:

    1. Would I be negatively impacted if I used the same text that I have on my YouTube description videos, as the content for my blog posts? (ie. does Google see that as duplicated content, or is there a best practice around this?)

    2. Let’s say you have a product named “DustRemover2000” and you want each post on your site to rank for that product keyword as well (i.e. own google search for your product). However, the “Help” guide mentions using a focus keyword only once. How would you go about this, to make sure that you own your own product keywords, without including them on each page?

    Thanks!

Following up on this with a slightly better example… or more realistic..

How would you recommend segregating keywords between the:
    1 – Woocommerce product page
2 – Squeeze page dedicated to selling the actual product

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

    1. Would I be negatively impacted if I used the same text that I have on my YouTube description videos, as the content for my blog posts? (ie. does Google see that as duplicated content, or is there a best practice around this?)
No you cannot get penalized for this, but it is best to manually create a tailored meta description for the post and fit the keyword that you want to rank for.

How would you recommend segregating keywords between the:
    1 – Woocommerce product page
2 – Squeeze page dedicated to selling the actual product

The keywords entered on the Rank Math metabox are never submitted to search engines but are only useful as the benchmark for the on page tests. The tests on the page will let you know how the post is optimized for that keyword.
In your example, you can share the keyword since the video post does not have any content and you will be adding an internal link to the product page.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
