    Rank Math free

Hello, about 6 months ago I built a new website for a client at https://www.rtltrades.com.au/.
I was told by a friend that I should switch from Yoast to RankMath because your performance was better. However, we have seen our Google rankings drop dramatically and they have not rcovered.
The website used to rank strongly and now it ranks very poorly.
Also, I have noticed that the SEO Titles that I have put for each page under RankMath SEO > General are not what is showing on Google.

For example, the SEO for the page https://www.rtltrades.com.au/plumber-drewvale/ is:
Title: Plumber Drewvale | RTL Trades | Best Local Drewvale Plumbers

But on Google it shows as:
Title: Best Local Drewvale Plumbers – RTL Trades

    Why is this?

Can you please let me know if we have done something wrong because we need the website to start moving back up the rankings or we will need to switch back to Yoast.

    Thank you very much

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

Sorry for the experience you had while using the plugin. We will try our level best to help you get to the bottom of this.

There are a few things you have to keep in mind when using any SEO plugin, not just Rank Math.

    1. An SEO plugin alone cannot bring down or bring up the traffic in a day (or even a few days) unless incorrect Meta Tags are used by setting up the plugin improperly. That’s why we have a detailed tutorial on that:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-setup/

    2. All the SEO plugins add Meta tags for the search engines which can be checked by viewing the source of a page. For instance, here:
    view-source:https://rankmath.com/

Other popular plugins generate similar tags:
    https://i.rankmath.com/n94KyH

And with the Rank Math plugin, additional tags are added to a page so search engines can understand the content on a website better.

    3. Google brings a new algorithmic update several times a month and the chances are great that your website got hit by that.

We have a full guide on that: https://rankmath.com/blog/google-algorithm-update-recovery/
And if you are using Rank Math PRO, you can even see if the drop in traffic co-relates to an algorithm update. Here’s how:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/google-algorithm-updates/

    FINAL STATEMENT

    – If your website is doing good on SERP, Rank Math is your best bet to improve the rankings further.
    – If your website is not doing good on search engines, Rank Math is the best option to move into.
    – We are pretty open in communication and how we are dealing with things.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Hi Miguel,

Thanks for your quick response, but it really doesn’t help me. I’ve been doing SEO for over ten years so i’m familiar with the process.

    1. An SEO plugin alone cannot bring down or bring up the traffic in a day (or even a few days) unless incorrect Meta Tags are used by setting up the plugin improperly. That’s why we have a detailed tutorial on that:
I understand it takes time, but all SEO information is correct and has been for over 6 months and the rankings have plumetted. We were ranking well with the same SEO information when we were using Yoast.

    2. All the SEO plugins add Meta tags for the search engines which can be checked by viewing the source of a page.
I don’t want RankMath to do this. We have entered the Titles, Descriptions, Feature images etc. that we want to use for ever page, but RankMath is not showing what we have entered. We just want what we have specified for each page/post to show.

And with the Rank Math plugin, additional tags are added to a page so search engines can understand the content on a website better.
We don’t want it to do this. We just want Google to scrape the information we have enetered for Titles and Descriptions.

    3. Google brings a new algorithmic update several times a month and the chances are great that your website got hit by that.
All other website’s we are using with Yoast have maintained strong rankings over the last six months. This is the only website where we have switched to RankMath and it is the only one that has seen a significant drop in rankings.

Can you have a look and see if there is some sort of error?

    Hello,

We don’t want it to do this. We just want Google to scrape the information we have enetered for Titles and Descriptions.

On the example URL you shared I checked the meta and it was set in Rank Math as you described. Screenshot:

Google is ignoring the meta title and description you have set and generating their own. Please refer to our knowledge base article on how to handle the issue: https://rankmath.com/kb/different-meta-title-and-description/

Please also verify that your titles are following Google guidelines: https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/appearance/title-link?visit_id=637988635436213042-2732463609&rd=1
Ideally the meta title and description should be easy to read while also descriptive of the page contents.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.

    Thanks Nigel,

I’ll make a couple of tweaks and see if that resolves the issue. I appreciate your assistance with this.

One last thing, there are 191 pages that are marked as Page With Redirect in Google Webmaster Tools. This number keeps increasing. We don’t have any redirects in place for any pages. Why is this happening?

Examples of pages with redirects are https://www.rtltrades.com.au/plumber-nathan and https://www.rtltrades.com.au/plumber-sunnybank amongst many others.

    Hello,

the pages you shared have “trailing slash redirects”. Your website is redirecting from a version without a slash to a version with a slash / at the end. Please check the setting under WordPress dashboard > Settings > permalinks and make sure there is a slash in each of the permalink settings. If the permalink settings are fine, please go through your website and find where links without slashes are being generated and contact the theme/plugin author for the tool used to generate them and ask for assistance adding slashes.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have questions.

    Hello,

I am trying to fix this “trailing slash redirect” issue.
    Permalinks are set to https://www.rtltrades.com.au/sample-post/

I reached out to our hosting provider asking if they had a solution and this is what they said…

We checked and found no redirection for rtltrades.com.au in .htaccess file on the path /home/rtlplumb/public_html/

Is there something else I need to do?

Just following on from the note above, I have downloaded a plugin called Permalink Manager and set it to “add trailing slashes”. Has this fixed the issue?

NB I also changed our caching plugin from Hummingbird to WP Fastest Cache because I read that sometimes caching plugins can cause this issue. Does it look like it’s resolved on your end? Cheers

    Hello,

Since you have addressed that, please observe the reports from GSC if you still getting redirection warnings there.

If there are still any, you may check all the internal links on your website’s content if there is a link that has no trailing slash in the URL.

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
