Sitemap not loading

    Hi There,

    We previously reached out about our sitemap not loading and were provided the “whitespace fix” PHP file. This worked at the time; however, the whitespace fix provided is no longer working, and our sitemap is not loading. Here’s a URL showing the error (URL added to sensitive data section)

    When we add the whitespace fix, the above sitemap URL loads a blank white page.

    We need a permanent solution to this error. Should we start looking for a sitemap solution outside of Rank Math?

    We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

    Hello,

    I have added include("wejnswpwhitespacefix.php"); in the index.php file and that fixed the issue.

    The issue is being caused because one of your site’s files has whitespace in it and it is affecting the sitemap of our plugin. To fix this, you will have to check all the files and figure out which file has that space and remove it. The whitespacefix is an easy way to fix this but it has to be done every time there is a WordPress core update.

    If you don’t want to do this, you can disable our sitemap module and use some other plugin to generate the sitemap.

    Hi Anas,

    Thanks for your assistance. I can see the sitemap now loading as expected. Very good.

    I have two follow-up questions:

    1. What is the best way to globally search for whitespace causing Rank Math to break? Is this whitespace only at the beginning/end of a file, or also whitespace within the middle of a file?
    2. Do you have recommendations for other sitemap plugins that your other customers are using successfully?

    Hello,

    I am glad that your issue has been addressed.

    As for your follow-up questions:

    1. This may require you to individually open the file and manually look for the white-space. This can be in the beginning or in between the file as long as it’s outside the <?php ... ?> scope. Here’s our detailed info about it: https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-sitemap-issues/#xml-text-declaration

    2. You may try this plugin as this is also commonly used: https://wordpress.org/plugins/google-sitemap-generator/

    If you wish to make use of this sitemap instead of ours, you can go ahead and disable the Sitemap module under Rank Math > Dashboard > Modules.
