Breadcrumbs with Astra template

I am having trouble with the category from a post appearing as the breadcrumb.
So I go from home page, to say accommodation page and within that page select a post the category of the post is used in the breadcrumb.

Settings I have hide post title off, show category(s) off and hide taxonomy name off.
The Astra settings are to use Rank Math for the breadcrumb and I do not see anything within that to change what I have in RM.

Hope you can give me an idea where I am going wrong
    Thanks

  • Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

It is likely you have another plugin modifying the breadcrumb settings. Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

Please let us know if you find the culprit.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Thank you Michael, that has helped, apologies it has taken me a while to get through this.

Yes there is a conflict somewhere between Rank Math, Astra theme and Elementor, with just Rank Math and the Theme Astra enabled and the Rank Math breadcrumb switched off I was able to see the Astra breadcrumb. With the Rank Math breadcrumb enabled I am getting a difference.

So I have got Rank Match set: Hide post Title Off, Show Categories Off, Hide Taxonomy Name On. In Astra I have, Position after header, source – Rank Match and no other settings so should show on everything.

When I go to home page it does not display, next item page is accommodation, when I go to that page is shows ‘home’ so OK I think sub page under accommodation (which is facilities) just shows ‘home – accommodation’

So it does not show ‘current page you are on’ when I enable elementor and elementor pro that same page shows a breadcrumb of ‘home – accommodation – facilities’

I am stuck, I cannot test any further as without Elementor my site does not display posts, with elementor activated it does and when you click on the post it shows in the breadcrumb, which is fine, however if you use the breadcrumb to go back and click on ‘facilities’ or ‘accommodation’ it takes you to display the category and not the page

Hope I have explained that – sorry, I am in no way technical. Maybe the way I have structured the site is not suited to the use of the breadcrumb?

    Regards
    Sandra

    Hello,

I am not sure if I understand it well so I apologize if I didn’t. I have checked the website there is a page called “accommodation” and there is a category called “accommodation”.

When you click in one of the posts you have in the breadcrumbs the following structure: home > accommodation > name of the post

And your issue is when you click in the “accommodation” breadcrumb it takes you to the category and not the page.

But that behaviour is normal, because those posts are children of the category, not of the page; and breadcrumbs are a structure to display the direct route between the home page and the current page.

If you want to override that, you could use some plugin to modify the “accommodation” category template to put there the content of the “accommodation” page; or you could create a redirection (for example, using Rank Math) to redirect from the “accommodation” category to the “accommodation” page.

    Looking forward to helping you.

Alberto, thank you for making it clearer for me. I must admit that having to work through the site to be able to give the description had made it a bit clear and now your message has just confirmed it for me.

I might have to rethink this now, I do like the idea of the breadcrumb but find the display of the resulting ‘category posts’ unsatisfactory so perhaps that is the area I need to work on.

    Thanks again
    Regards
    Sandra
