Sitemap issue

#443943
  • Hello. According to Search Console, I’m having site indexing issues related to my sitemap.

I created a sitemap in Rankmath. The sitemap URL is https://flight-arrow.com/?sitemap=1
It is different than the standard sitemap URL format.
    example: https://www.flight-arrow.com/sitemap.xml

    Question #1:Is this a problem?
Question #2: Should the sitemap portion of my robots.txt file have the sitemap URL generated by rankmath? Right now it has the standard format.

    Here is my robots.txt file:

    User-agent: *
    Disallow: /wp-admin/
    Allow: /wp-admin/admin-ajax.php

    Sitemap: https://www.flight-arrow.com/sitemap.xml

As you can see, my sitemap format in the robots.txt file is different than my actual sitemap generated by Rankmath. Could this be a problem?

    Thank you so much!

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

    1. No, this is not a problem.

It looks like the permalink structure on your website is set to plain which is why the URL is not changed in Sitemap settings.

To change this, you need to set the permalink structure to Post name at WordPress settings > Permalinks

Please note that changing the permalinks on a live, indexed, and established site may result in a serious loss of traffic.

    2. The robots.txt file should have the actual sitemap URL that is created with Rank Math.

    Hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Thank you

I changed the permalink structure to post name and it changed the sitemap URL to:
    https://flight-arrow.com/sitemap_index.xml

I was to understand that this format is the best practice.
    https://www.flight-arrow.com/sitemap.xml

Does this matter? Can you tell me why it is different?

    Hello,

The sitemap generated by Rank Math is accessible at sitemap_index.xml.

The sitemap URL does not matter, however, the sitemap.xml URL is already redirecting to the main sitemap URL.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.
