For initial troubleshooting steps, please follow these steps:
Ensure that you have verified the correct version of your website on the Google Search Console (http or https, www or non-www).
Also, please make sure that the Google account you used to connect your Google Search Console profile is the same one you have used to verify your domain on GSC.
Another initial troubleshooting is to reconnect your Google account to regenerate the auth token from Google, by going to WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > Analytics and configure the Search Console and Analytics settings again:

Please ensure you have checked all the required permissions.

as I said in my initial query reconnecting via console doesn’t change anything. I simply cannot choose from a website. Would be great if you could email me, so I can provide screenshots.

You can share screenshot links using a tool like imgbb.com or share a screencast link using a tool like loom.com.
If I understand correctly, when you connect to Google services, the GSC and GA property settings on your website are blank, as in the screenshot below:

If so, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.

I don’t feel comfortable doing that publicly. Email me privately to talk this through please. If it doesn’t work, I just go back to Yoast. this is ridiculously complicated.

We respect if you don’t feel comfortable doing this via our support channels, but when the URL doesn’t appear on the account it’s usually because the permissions have not been given or the correct variation was not verified on GSC.
