Canonical url query

    Hi team,

On the ‘Advanced’ section of a post, are the default placeholders in grey text in the Canonical URL inputs actually used as canonical urls or are they acting as hints for canonical urls and does the user need to write them in manually?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math support today and bringing your concern to our attention.

The canonical URL you see in the placeholder is actually the currently generated canonical for your post. You can see that in your post’s page source as a canonical meta tag.

By default, you don’t need to change anything as Rank Math is already generating the correct canonical to avoid duplication issues.

You may refer here for more details about it: https://rankmath.com/kb/how-to-change-canonical-url/#num-3-change-the-canonical-url

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.
