Hello guys, I hope you’re keeping yourself safe. SEO noob here, seeking some help!

The problem: I have enabled Rank Math SEO sitemap and already submitted it to the search console, but today I saw this (image): https://drive.google.com/open?id=1ZYKhf2zX6rXdVbELm8MGNoWQ6VxtYFHv

Help Needed: Are these sitemaps in robots.txt will affect my website’s SEO? If so, please tell me how can I tackle this, help me to remove it.

These sitemaps are created by Jetpack and after seeing this I disabled sitemap from Jetpack settings but they didn’t have any effect here as you can clearly see in this pic.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

Don’t worry about it, those sitemaps are fine there as you can see on Google Forums: https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/6062596?hl=en

The problem would be if they were the same, since you don’t want duplicated sitemaps, but since it is not the case, everything is fine.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi Vipin,

Both the sitemaps are not correct if you are just using Rank Math to add sitemaps. Those might work when you are using JetPack sitemaps but not when using Rank Math as Rank Math uses a different filename for Sitemaps.

We use sitemap_index.xml while you have just sitemap.xml in your robots.txt.

It doesn’t make much difference since you might already have added the correct Sitemap URL in Google Search Console but it is important that you do things correctly 🙂

Just remove the robots.txt file that might be under your root folder and let Rank Math do the rest 🙂

We will automatically update your robots.txt when there isn’t one present.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

    Hey, thanks for the reply!

So if I delete my robots.txt from my root folder of the website, will it cause a problem to SEO or to Google?

And doesn’t it makes a sense to edit txt file and remove those extra sitemaps from robots.txt file?

I’m very serious and I don’t wanna cause or hurt my website’s SEO.

    Hi Vipin,

    1. No, because when there is no robots.txt file present in the root – one will be created for you by Rank Math. If you check your own screenshot, you will see that:
    null

    2. By all means, make changes as you wish. As I mentioned, it makes no difference as long as an actual Sitemap file is added to your Google Search Console.

Hope that helps and please do not hesitate to let us know if you need our assistance with anything else.

Thank you, Todd! It was helpful.
