Hello,
Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.
Could you please share a screen recording of the steps that you are taking so that I can try to replicate this behavior on my end?
Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
Hello,
I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?
Thank you.
Hi Adrian,
You are trying to change the slug of a page before the slug is generated. The slug is generated when you hit the save button one (either draft or publish).
Then, the slug will get generated and you can change it via Rank Math:

For now, you have to reload the page/post before you can change the slug but we are working on a fix where you don’t need to reload the page.
Okay – but you could change before. Does this create a redirection though?
Hi Adrian,
Yes, it creates automatically a redirection. I have done a screencast with a demo where I change the slug and after that, I check going to that post using the new and the old slug and both slugs work:

Thank you.
Doesn’t a redirection degrade my site from SEO.
Hello Adrian,
Not really, if it is a 301 redirection it just says to Google that the old URL is now the new one so Google will switch the ranking and stats from the old URL to the new one. With that said, when you change a URL, previous one is redirected to the new one. This is the default WP behavior. This will happen with or without Rank Math. But, Google and users will never see the old URL so technically it will never get triggered. I hope that makes sense.
Thank you!
