Greetings, Before I upgrade, I want to resolve an issue I am having with the permalink character count. It appears to be caching or accessing info so when I enter a slug, it begins at around 50 characters or so. I cannot enter a full permalink without going over recommended max.
I ran a wipe on redirects and reset the settings but it did not correct the issue. I looked into the taxonomy and other settings in the advanced setup for your product but don’t know if settings are the issue. I am using the default canonical name setup in wp.
I was having this issue before I tried shortening top level category permalink without success. I installed a category removing plugin next thinking it might remove categories and free up permalink space issue but all it did was cause an error showing too many redirects on the web. I removed the plugin and the site reverted back to where it was but still having the restriction on characters in permalink box.
I have a long domain name but this issue only arose in the last few days after I made a few changes and removed another plugin for redirects. Before I removed redirects pro, I deleted all records and reset it thinking that it would create a clean slate for your software to handle moving forward on redirects. I am not sure if that caused the issue. My site is not live but was live for a few days before this happened and I put it back into coming soon mode. It has not been indexed by search engines yet so redirects probably were not an issue and why I removed the 303’s.
if you would please help with a solution, I will upgrade to pro. I also would like your advice on removing categories for a shorter url and if this is a good or bad idea and how to do. Thanks in advance for your help and hope to hear back soon!
