Primary Category Filter

Hello there!

My name is Joshua Larson. I am a web developer working with Rank Math on our new site. We are utilizing Rank Math’s “Select Primary Term” for the categories on our posts.

I was wondering if there was a way to add a PHP function that would allow us to only display the parent categories within the “Select Primary Term” dropdown on the block editor. Our use case, for example, has a parent category of “Philosophy” with child categories of “Pilgrimage”, “Philosophy”, “Group Practice”, etc. Under these circumstances, the dropdown in the Select Primary Term will display “Philosophy” twice, with no distinction between the Parent and the Child.

For a better user experience with our team, is there a setting that we can set that will filter out these primary terms and only display the highest level parent categories? Or perhaps we can add some code to our functions.php to perform the same duty.
