My blog post is set to ‘no index’

    Rank Math pro

I recently installed RankMath and I was very happy with it. But I just published a new blog post and submitted it to GSC. I couldn’t understand why it’s not showing up in the search results. Then I Googled ‘why hasn’t Google indexed my page’. The first and most common reason it gave was the presence of a ‘no index’ tag in the web page. So I checked, and sure enough, there’s a ‘no index’ tag in the header of that blog post. The tag was inserted by RankMath! I’ve checked in the SEO Titles and Meta section of my RankMath installation, and in ‘blog posts’ the ‘no index’ field is not checked. So I don’t understand why this has happened. But needless to say, I’m going to uninstall Rankmath and go back to using Yoast SEO. This is a really bad unintended consequence of using RankMath! I hope you can fix it, because it’s otherwise an excellent plugin.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

This is not a known problem and not something that I have come across while using the plugin. It is likely that there was a misconfiguration during setup that caused this robots tag to be assigned to the page.

We would be happy to check your settings if you are willing to give the plugin a second chance.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

Thanks, Michael. My main concern right now is to work out why my new article is not being indexed by Google. This has never happened to me before. I always get my articles indexed by Google within 24 hours, using the submit URL function within GSC. My whole business model depends on being able to get my new content quickly indexed by Google. It’s been 5 days since I published that article, and it’s still not appearing in Google Search. I’ve switched back to Yoast SEO. But I’d be very grateful if you have any ideas as to how I can gt that article indexed by Google (i.e. how to undo whatever it is that RankMath did). Many thanks.

    Hi Rob,

    Thanks for the follow up.

This concern is completely understandable. If you have already switched to Yoast, I can suggest that you inspect the affected post and check whether the index tag has been properly set to index.

If it already set to this, then you will only have to wait until Google crawls your site next and the post will be indexed and added to the SERP.

I can also suggest that you take a look at our instant indexing API plugin that might be able to help if you have a news/job posting website: https://wordpress.org/plugins/fast-indexing-api/

    I hope this info helps.
