site map cannot optn

#344830
  • Hello,

I have trouble submitting my sitemap to google, it keeps saying cannot fetch sitemap and Sitemap could not be read.

I tried opening my sitemap index and it takes very long time to open. I do have a big site so i am not sure if it is a problem.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I checked your sitemap and it seems to be loading just fine but your primary sitemap isn’t loading.

Please check if PHP values are not too low to handle the loading process of your sitemap.

You can check that by going to WordPress dashboard > Tools > Site Health > Info tab > Server

If the values are low, please contact your web host and ask them to set the following values:

    PHP Memory Limit: 512M
    Max input time: 150
    PHP time limit: 120
    PHP max input variables: 1000

After that, please follow these steps.

    1. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:
    https://i.rankmath.com/pipRDp

    2. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server. For plugins or Cloudflare, please follow this article:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

    3. After that, remove all your sitemaps from your GSC and resubmit only the primary sitemap (sitemap_index.xml).

Let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you on this one.

    Hi,

I can confirm that my server configurations match those that you have suggested. I also contacted my hosting provider and they could not find any issue on their end.
I also followed the steps you suggested to exclude the sitemap from cache and flush the url. But the problem is still there.

    Hello,

I have checked your sitemap https://thefootballlovers.com/sitemap_index.xml and it is working fine.

Have a look at the below screenshot –

    Sitemap Fine

Could you please clear your site and browser cache or check the URL in an incognito window?

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I think it was because the index sitemap was too big and taking long to respond. I increased the child sitemap to 700 url.

Problem now is GSC will fetch index sitemap, but shows error on child sitemaps: couldn’t fetch’ and Sitemap could not be read

    Hello,

I’ve checked your site, and it seems that you haven’t verified the www version of your website to be redirected to the non-www version. I’ve attached a screenshot in the sensitive data section.

Please ensure that only 1 version of the sitemap is working (200 Ok status), and the rest are redirecting to it. You can also use this tool to check.

You can follow the steps in this link to redirect your www version of your site:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/couldnt-fetch-error-google-search-console/#5-check-for-the-correct-version-of-the-sitemap

Once done, remove all the sitemaps submitted in your Google Search Console and resubmit your main sitemap. Then give Google some time to recrawl your sitemaps.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hi,

I did check my URL versions for my homepage and they are redirecting properly.
Google is able to read my main sitemap but the child sitemaps are still not being fetched. Here are screenshots of the errors

    Hello,

It seems your sitemap is throwing 404 errors again from my end.

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

We really look forward to helping you.
