    Hi Rank Math staff,

We have globald settings for the meta titles and descriptions to automatically build them.

All our posts have filled the field “post-excerpt” with only two words.

This field we also call in the global meta title with the variable %excerpt_only%. Thats great and it works.

But in the meta description it is not possible to build global settings. Whatever we set there it doesnt work.

Instead in every posts meta description there is now only shown the %excerpt_only% and nothing else.

We can override the meta description in every single post, but we want to manage it global.

    What are we doing wrong?

    Hi Olivia,

Thanks for getting in touch with us.

Please help us understand this correctly:

You are using custom excerpts on your posts and using %excerpt_only% variable so Rank Math uses that custom excerpt as the meta description.

For some reason, it is not working for you?

Have you tried adding that at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Posts/Pages/CPTs?

If that is not what you meant, can you please help us understand better?

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

Under Dashboard – Rank Math – Meta & Titles – Posts I can build the meta titles, but as i showed you it doesnt work for the meta description.

Whatever I put in this field, it will be ignored.

Does the text-excerpt field override Rank Math commands?

For your interest: Editing the meta description directly in post-edit view (Dashboard – posts) is possible, but its pre-filled with the content of the text excerpt field, as it is also in the code of the live website.

    Hi Olivia,

If that doesn’t work, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please include your WP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):
    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Hello,
