Weird generated excerpt and social image - Support

I’m working on a website on a subdomain. https://dno.dreamfoxdesign.com

Under Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Pages > Single Page Description , I’ve set it to %excerpt%. I then set a default OpenGraph thumbnail (which I’m assuming means that if I do not have a featured image on the page, this thumbnail would be used when the post is shared on social platforms) on Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Global Meta > OpenGraph Thumbnail.

Here’s the problem. When I share the page https://dno.dreamfoxdesign.com/about and https://dno.dreamfoxdesign.com/contact on FB,

1) The auto generated %excerpt% turned out weird for both pages

2) The 1st image of https://dno.dreamfoxdesign.com/about was used as the share image, although I did not set a featured image on the page. The other pages seem to share fine.

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

I’ve checked the pages, and indeed they are showing the excerpt incorrectly. However, Rank Math is already compatible with Elementor.

Assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

Hello,

The about page is now fixed and it’s showing the meta description taken directly from the content of your website correctly.

However, the contact page doesn’t have any content apart from the headings and as such the plugin is detecting the first piece it can find inside the content are and that’s the comment from Elementor that you see in the meta description.

In this case, we recommend that you set a manual description for this page so that it gets updated correctly and the comment is removed.

Ah yes,

1) The about us page is still automatically taking the first image of the page as the social sharing image. I did not set the featured image, which in this case, rankmath should full default OpenGraph thumbnail I’ve set on Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Global Meta > OpenGraph Thumbnail.

2) the contact page is still showing the weird elementor meta description

I can easily set a thumbnail or write manual excerpts as a quick fix to these issue. But my question is, is it a problem with my setup or is it a bug on rankmath that should be fixed?

Hello,

Please make sure that your default Opengraph thumbnail image is of the recommended dimensions (i.e, 1200px X 630px) and of the supported image types (jpeg, png, and gif).

Your contact page is showing the elementor tags because this page has no readable content. If you will add some content to this page, this issue will be resolved. Also, you can fix this issue by editing the Rank Math meta description and OG description.

I changed my default Opengraph thumbnail image from 512px X 512px to 1200px X 630px but it did not help. I had to set a featured image on the about page to the correct image.

I got the meta description working correctly by setting the default to %excerpt_only% instead of %excerpt%.
