which subcategories can I use for software in rich snippets - Support

I’m trying to use rich snippets for a software in category softwareApplication. But I’m wondering which subcategories are valid.

Have made a lot of searches. Perhaps I’m using wrong keywords but I can’t find nothing.

If you’re asking on which types of applications, the Software schema can be used, then you can have a look at this documentation from Google:

Sorry for the typo – I meant there’s only a list for applicationCategory but not for applicationSubCategory

Thank you for your fast reply and the link.

Currently I’m using metadata like this

<span itemprop="applicationCategory" content="GameApplication">Game</span>

But when I’m looking here

https://schema.org/SoftwareApplication

there must be something like

<span itemprop="applicationSubCategory" content="Arcade Game">Arcade</span>

I can see at

https://developers.google.com/search/docs/advanced/structured-data/software-app#:~:text=recommended%20Review%20properties.-,Recommended%20properties,-applicationCategory

there’s a list for valid values to use with applicationSubCategory

Now I’m searching for the same list but for applicationSubCategory cause I want to define the kind of software better.

Hello,

Even without the property applicationSubCategory, the software schema should still be accepted by Rich Result as using only applicationCategory should suffice. I tried using our software schema on my local installation and tested it in both schema.org and Rich Result Test, it returned no error:

With that said, you can always add another property such as the applicationSubCategory if you wish, but this is only possible with our PRO version’s advanced schema editor: https://rankmath.com/kb/rich-snippets/#advanced-schema-editor
