I am watching my website’s 404 Monitor. I am seeing my websites’s primary URL https://www.catherinerivers.com show up repeatedly in the 404 Monitor.

My traffic has fallen off sharply in the past 5 months…about 75%

I have the advanced setting turned on. The referrer field is blank. The User Agent is primarily Chrome.

Am I seeing valid attempts to access my website turned back? I don’t see counts of this size in Google Analytics.

I’d appreciate any insight you can give me. Cathy

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting the support, and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

We report only those 404 URLs that actually return a 404 status code and, upon accessing, which takes to the default WordPress 404 page.

It is likely that some bots might have accessed these 404 URLs, which is why the user-agent is not shown.

Please note that we only report the 404s. We do not have information on how or why they are generated.

Kindly follow the steps from our Knowledge Base article to fix the 404 errors:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-404-errors/

A decrease in rankings can be due to many reasons, and one of the most common reasons is that Google, multiple times in a month, releases algorithmic updates, and these updates hit many websites causing a temporary decrease in rankings.

However, could you please check the coverage report under your Google Search Console account to see if there are any errors shown, that might be causing the issue?

Please let us know how that goes. Looking forward to helping you further.

    Thank you
