Huge 404 Logs

Hi. My site is relatively new and only has a few pages. All content seems correct and all links within pages are correct. I have only ever removed a couple of pages as the site is still quite new and I have redirected them appropriately.

However I am getting a large 404 log appearing in Rank Math 404 monitor each day and I don’t understand why. Are these real 404’s? What is causing them?

Also my website is showing up on Google search with a – before the domain name, it is showing as – Wealth Proactive rather than just Wealth Proactive. Is there a setting somewhere that could be causing this?

I have one blog post only on this site so far and it is ranking on Google Page 4 at the moment. However, rather than showing the domain and then the slug, (for example wealthproactive.com/name-of-post) it ranks as the domain only, so that when it gets clicked on it takes the user to the homepage, but the blog post is not on the homepage. Surely the post should be ranking with the post name and not the domain name so that when someone clicks from a google search it takes them straight to the blog post itself.

I’ve recorded a loom to show some of the issues. Please help me resolve. Thank you.

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math, and sorry for any inconvenience caused.

Please note that we only report the 404s. We do not have information on how or why they are generated. You can get further insight into them by enabling the advanced monitor at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > 404 Monitor:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/monitor-404-errors/#advanced-404-monitor

That will give you more information like referrer and user-agent. You can use that information to track down the source or find out if it is just bots generating those errors.

You can also fix these errors by redirecting them to a related page on your website:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/fix-404-errors/

Or, you can add them to the exclusion list at WordPress Dashboard > Rank Math > General Settings > 404 Monitor > Exclude Paths

For the title, you can change the title of the homepage by going to the page > SEO settings > Edit Snippet.
    https://rankmath.com/kb/homepage-meta-title-and-description/#edit-your-homepage-directly

If you have set the latest page as homepage, you can edit the title of the homepage by going to Rank Math > Titles & Meta > Homepage:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/homepage-meta-title-and-description/#edit-your-titles-meta-settings

If the Homepage is ranking in the search results, it means that Google thinks that this page is a better fit than the post you want to rank with, it largely depends on the search intent and the search term.

However, as you only have one post and the post is relatively new, I’ll suggest you wait for some more time and let Google crawl your website and rank the correct post/page for the search term.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.
