Rank Math activation causing weird redirections on a multisite

Hi, I’m facing redirection issue after activating Rank Math. It is happening on our multisite network with language versions.

On a live version without Rank Math there is a page:
    https://www.tripplo.com/uk/discount-codes/zavvi

But on our staging, where I wanted to implement Rank Math, just after activating it this URL redirects back to /uk/ as you can see below:
    https://staging-tripplocom.kinsta.cloud/uk/discount-code/zavvi

I’ve talked with Kinsta support and they told me its nothing on their end. X-redirection-by says its WordPress but there are no custom rules defined that would cause this issue. It happens only after activating Rank Math.

I can prepare a wordpress account if you’d like to get into the staging and activate Rank Math on your own.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math.

I have checked both the URLs on https://httpstatus.io/ and it seems that both of the URLs have 301 Redirect rule set.

    URL – https://www.tripplo.com/uk/discount-codes/zavvi is redirecting to https://www.tripplo.com/uk/ whereas;

    URL – https://staging-tripplocom.kinsta.cloud/uk/discount-code/zavvi is redirecting to https://staging-tripplocom.kinsta.cloud/uk/

Have a look at this screenshot for your reference – https://share.getcloudapp.com/WnukjJ2W

Looking at the redirects and screenshots, it seems that both the URLs (live and staging) are redirecting back to the homepage of your site.

You can verify the same from – https://httpstatus.io/

Since the main site – https://www.tripplo.com/uk/discount-codes/zavvi does not have Rank Math installed, and is still returning the 301 Redirect status code, therefore, we can conclude that Rank Math is not at cause here.

You can check if there are any other redirection plugins installed on your site that are the cause of this redirect issue.

    Looking forward to your update.

    Thank you.

Ok maybe I sent you wrong URL Example, but when you go lets say here:

    https://www.tripplo.com/uk/discount-code/printerinks

It shows you the discount codes, on staging it is redirecting back to uk.

If you try to visit any of the discount pages here
https://staging-tripplocom.kinsta.cloud/uk/ it redirects back to /uk/ instead of acting like here
    https://www.tripplo.com/uk/

    Hello,

In this case, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your staging WordPress logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.

Please do take a complete backup of your website before sharing the information with us.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

I’ve created admin user for you and updated login details in Sensitive Data.

    Hello,

    Thank you for that information.

I’ve checked your staging site, and it seems that the All Store tab is missing, unlike your live site. That’s why the discount link is not showing on your staging site.

Please see the screenshot in the sensitive data section.

    I hope that helps.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I have updated the sensitive data as requested. Can you please check further?

    Thank you.

I’ve created fresh staging without Rank Math SEO activated and store / discount pages are working properly so its breaking after activating Rank Math SEO I guess. Can you try to log in again on staging and activate the rank math SEO?

    Hello,

I’ve checked your staging site, and it seems that Rank Math is network-activated.

Also, the plugin section is missing from the staging site, as it seems that it was set up in a multisite environment. Could you please update the user to super admin to check further?

Meanwhile, the correct way to set it up is by having the plugin activated on individual sites. Let us know if the issue still persists with this setup.

Here’s a link for more information:

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you.

I’ve granted your user Super Admin, there is Instant Indexing by Rank Math installed but the SEO-part is not installed yet. You can do it and check why it is causing the redirections, I’d really appreciate your help.

    Hello,

Kindly share your FTP login details so that we can take a look at your htaccess file. Also, you are using the SEOPress plugin on your staging site, and the Rank Math SEO plugin is not installed yet.

    Looking forward to helping you.

    Thank you

Hello Azib, there is no htaccess file on the FTP as it is an nginx server.

As I said before, there is no Rank Math SEO installed on staging because I asked if you can try to activate it by yourself as during the activation things are messing up. We can see that after activating the SEO Module from Rank Math this part of page is gone:

    https://staging-tripplocom.kinsta.cloud/uk/discount-code

When I was installing Rank Math SEO by myself and activating it, after basic setup without importing any data + with removing SEOPress the discount pages were missing.

    Hello,

We see the same exact functionality on that page with or without Rank Math enabled and the redirection is not being handled by our plugin.

    Check this screencast: https://i.rankmath.com/20d3cZ

Since the behavior is the same with our plugin enabled and disabled this must be caused by some other settings or plugin.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

Hey, as I already said, the redirections are messing up only after activating and setting up the basic “Setup Wizard” in Rank Math. I’ve disabled all the plugins so no plugin is causing the redirections. As you can see, the redirections are happening only after the “Setup Wizard” in Rank Math SEO.

    Hello,

If you look closely at the video we shared you’ll see that when we had Rank Math enabled the icon on the left sidebar was showing for our plugin which indicates that the Setup Wizard has already been run and there’s no need to run it again.

If you see a different situation on your end please record a screencast of the issue similar to the one we did so we can try to reproduce the steps ourselves.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

    Hello,

Since we did not hear back from you for 15 days, we are assuming that you found the solution. We are closing this support ticket.

If you still need assistance or any other help, please feel free to open a new support ticket, and we will be more than happy to assist.

    Thank you.
