The Instant Indexing API helps your website’s pages and content to be crawled instantly.
Using the API does not always result in the indexation of the content. It may take anywhere from minutes to days or even weeks before a URL shows up in the search results. Using the instant indexing plugin doesn’t guarantee that your pages will show up in the search results. Crawling and indexing of the website depends on the authority and crawl budget of the website.

Hi there, Thanks for your message. That is really disappointing to hear and very deceiving with the name Instant Indexing. Some of my internal pages have been crawled but not indexed in GSC. when I manually submit they are indexed within a day or two. Because I have over 100 was of the understanding that your instant indexing tool would do that as I have a lot to do and manually doing each one takes a long time.
Do you have an alternative suggestion please?

The Instant Indexing API just sends a request to the search engine to get the content indexed faster. Once the request has been sent, it is totally up to the search engines to index the pages, and this may indeed take less or more time.
However, as for crawled, currently not indexed, this simply means that the page was crawled but is yet to be indexed. There can be several reasons for this.
I suggest you double-check the points mentioned in this article on a few recently published pages that are affected here and wait for Google to crawl the website again and see if the pages are indexed:

Yes, you can see it that way since Instant Indexing is just a program that tells Google through API that you are requesting a particular URL to be crawled for indexing.
It would still depend on Google if they wish to prioritize your URL as instant crawling is depending on your crawling budget given by Google.

We can’t be sure that the API is exactly the same, because nobody outside Google knows what methods or APIs their Google Search Console uses and they obviously are not going to share that information publicly.
The only thing we know for sure is that the Instant Indexing method is usually faster than just adding the pages to the sitemap and ping Google about such results.
