How to deploy a site using RM

    Rank Math free

    Hi,

we are using a setup with a dev and a live installation of WordPress. All content and changes are first entered to the dev site and later deployed to live using sort of backup and restore technique.

This means we would configure all seo related data in RankMath on dev. Configure search console for live site on dev also. Redirects would be entered starting with “/”. Unfortunately adding a redirect vom the 404 monitor will add the entry including the site host.

    – Will all the seo data entered still work after transferring a site from one URL to another?
    – Is it possible to have redirects written to the htaccess file in this setup? If entered on one URL, will the plugin write the htaccess also on the second URL after restore?

    Thanks in advance, regards
    Jochen

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

You can easily import all the SEO information including the redirections by using the native import/export feature that is available on the Rank Math options > Import & Export. Please note that the redirection will not save the site URL which makes it easier to migrate URLs.
You can also headover to Rank Math > Redirections and use the export to .htaccess button for more control.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

    Hi,

I do not plan to export or import the RM settings.

My question is, if I transfer a site using RM from one URL to another by the means of backup-restore including search & replace for the changed URL, will RM still work correctly on the new URL with all SEO setting in place.
Thanks for the info, that the redirects are saved without the URL, but why does the interface show the URL included, then?

As to the Redirects. I would love to have them in htaccess. What happens, if I configure redirects and writing those to htaccess on the source URL bevore transferring, will that work on the target site? Does the Plugin automatically see to it, that the htaccess is filled with the redirects or does that happen only on request?

    Thanks
    Jochen

    Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math today.

Yes the plugin settings should continue to work as expected after doing a backup-restore.
The source URLs are saved without the domain name but the destination will include the destination URLs.

Once you import the redirections to .htaccess the source URLs will not contain the domain name but you will need to update the destination URLs once you migrate the rewrite rules to the new site using a find-replace.

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.
