Disabling Rank math self referencing canonical tags

Hi, Is it possible to disable rank math self-referencing canonical tags, which are generated by default?

It seems that they’re generated in the <body>, not <head>. This article on Google Developers (https://developers.google.com/search/blog/2013/04/5-common-mistakes-with-relcanonical) says that canonical tags should always be set up within <head>, and if they’re in <body>, they’re always disregarded, which means that Rank math automatically generated canonical are pointless. In the search console, they aren’t detected on any of my pages, which proves this point.

I’d like to add my own canonical tags to the head, but the same article also states that if multiple canonical tags are detected on the same page, all of them will be disregarded. So before I do that I need to disable the automatically generated rank math canonical tags. How would I do that?

    Thanks,

  • Hello,

Thanks for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

Rank Math adds the canonical tag inside the head. There must be some other plugin or theme that must be adding the canonical inside the body. Can you please share one of the affected URLs so we can check and assist you further?

    Looking forward to helping you.

Thanks for letting me know. I checked and it really does insert it into the head. The issue happened only on some of my post category pages, so I knew I had an issue there. I was calling the <body> tag before Rank Math was loaded, so I fixed that, and now it’s working. Thanks for your help!
