Hello, I am receiving the below error now when I click on my site “Sitemap” link in the footer. I have not experienced this error before today. Any idea what the problem and fix may be to correct? My site: standfastus.com

I have tried this step and it did not work >> go to Settings > Permalinks and hit the “Save Changes” button once even if you didn’t make any changes on the page.

    Thank you.

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting us and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

You seem to have two plugins generating sitemaps and that is bound to cause errors on your website.

One sitemap is being generated by Rank Math and the other is being generated by Jetpack and both are loading on different URLs.

Please use just a single plugin for your sitemap generation.

Don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any other questions.

Thank you for your quick reply. Since I am not technical, what is the best next step?

Jetpack comes installed and activated “automatically” as part of my WordPress.com “eCommerce Plan.” Right now I use this shortcode [sitemap] on the Sitemap page. Should I change this shortcode for something for RankMath instead? What do you recommend I do to fix? I am not using any other sitemap plugin.

    Thank you again.

    Hello,

Assuming you wish to use the sitemaps from Rank Math, you should disable the Jetpack sitemaps.

You can follow this article to disable Jetpack sitemaps:
    https://answeryourtech.com/how-to-enable-or-disable-sitemaps-in-the-jetpack-wordpress-plugin/

Also, please ensure that you have submitted the sitemaps generated by Rank Math to your Google Search Console account. Here’s a guide regarding it: https://rankmath.com/kb/submit-sitemap-to-google/

    Hope this helps.

    Thank you.

    Hello,
I did see where to Disable the Jetpack Sitemap in the Traffic tab.

QUESTION: if I disable the JetPack Sitemap button, and then press the “Sitemap” link on my Homepage, I still get the same error message as my first Submitted message. How do I fix so that when I disable JetPack, I do not receive the same error message when I click the “Sitemap” link on my site (standfastus.com) page?

When I click the “Sitemap” link (after I were to disable JetPack), should I still see the WordPress “Sitemap Page” popup with using the current [sitemap] shortcode?

Yes, I have submitted my Sitemaps to Google, per your above/last statement.

    Thank you.

    Hello,

I checked the sitemap link in your footer and noticed that the sitemap URL is incorrect.

The correct URL for the index sitemap of Rank Math on your website is https://standfastus.com/sitemap_index.xml and in the footer, the URL used is https://standfastus.com/sitemap/.

Firstly, you should update the sitemap URL in the footer to fix the link in the frontend of the website.

Next, to check why the URL is getting in a redirect loop, can you please temporarily disable the Redirections module from your WordPress admin area > Rank Math > Dashboard, and access this (https://standfastus.com/sitemap/) URL and see if the Redirection is gone?

If yes, then please enable the Redirections module again and follow this guide to determine the rule causing the redirection loop: https://rankmath.com/kb/solving-redirection-issues-using-rank-math-seo/#redirection-debug

If that’s not the case and the redirection persists even after disabling the Redirections module, assuming you are using the latest version of all the plugins and the themes (please update if not yet), it would seem like a conflict with one of the plugins or the theme you are using.

To determine that, please follow this troubleshooting guide:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Here is a video you can follow as well: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FcIWRhcUP2c

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

Please let us know how that goes.

    Thank you.

    Hello,
Thank you for your last reply.

    1) I changed the frontend Sitemap URL FROM https://standfastus.com/sitemap/ TO https://standfastus.com/sitemap_index.xml

    2) I removed the earlier 404 “Redirect” I setup first thing today in RankMath when I first saw the 404 message in the RankMath 404 monitor.

Once I did #1 (I just removed #2 above BEFORE I tested if #1 worked by itself), then clicked on the “Sitemap” link in my Footer, the Sitemap WordPress page came up okay.

NOTE: I did NOT disable the JetPack SiteMap (as you/Prabhat stated in your first reply) and all works okay. Do you still recommend I disable JetPack???

    Thank you.

    Hello,

Yes, please disable JetPacks’s sitemap as well to avoid conflicts with Rank Math sitemaps.

    I hope that helps.

Thank you, and please don’t hesitate to contact us anytime if you need further assistance with anything else.

    Hello,

    – Okay, disabled the JetPack “Sitemap”, using just the RankMath Sitemap functionality and updated URL. The WordPress Sitemap front-end page still works fine. All seems to work okay.

Thank you for your timely help and resolution. Please close the ticket.

    Thank you.
