Sitemap issue (The sitemap is in HTML format)

    Hi and sorry for my bad english… after creating a search console profile yesterday I tried to index my site, I naturally sent my sitemap created with rankmath, but a message warned me that it was impossible to read it.

    Also trying the same result the next day, so I tried to deactivate only the Search Console module (not the plugin) from the RM dashboard, and to resubmit, and only at that point was able to read it, but with a new error warning because the sitemap would be a html page (see screenshot https://ibb.co/KLTRLRC).

    How can fix it? And above all, now do I have to activate or deactivate your Search Console module, since Google reads my sitemap only when it is deactivated?

    Can you please confirm if you have submitted the correct URL?

    if for “correct url” you mean only the part after the slash /, yes, in search console I’ve submitted “sitemap_index.xml” and not the complete url

    But i can’t use the Health Check plugin, because last time I tried (for another issue) it caused a lot of problems…

    Hello,

    I’ve checked your sitemap, and it seems to be working fine.

    In this case, please make sure that your sitemap is not getting cached. Please follow these steps:

    1. Ensure you’re using the latest version of your plugins/theme including Rank Math

    2. Flush the Sitemap cache by following this video screencast:

    3. Exclude the Sitemap files of the Rank Math plugin in your caching plugin. The cache could be via a plugin or from the server:
    https://rankmath.com/kb/exclude-sitemaps-from-caching/

    Once done, remove all your sitemaps submitted and resubmit your main sitemap /sitemap_index.xml and give Google some time to recrawl your site.

    where can I read what my RM version is? If I go in “Status & Tools” all I can read in “Version Control” is “Version 1.0.69.2. You are using the latest version of the plugin”. So, no reference to version 2.13.0. Is that possible?

    I followed all your suggestions (edited the htacces and I’ve excluded the sitemap file from my cache plugin (I used “WP Fastest Cache) and now my sitemap file is:

    https://librangolo.altervista.org/sitemap_index.xml

    If you think that it is correct, now I resubmit my main sitemap? And how I can remove my old sitemaps submitted?

    Hello,

    2.13.0 is the latest version of the PRO plugin, as you are a free user you will only see Version 1.0.69.2.

    I checked your sitemap, it is working fine now.

    To resubmit the sitemap, log in to your Search Console and go to the sitemap section.

    Click on the submitted sitemap and then the 3 dots, you will then get an option to remove the sitemap:
    remove sitemap

    Add the sitemap_index.xml again and wait for Google to recrawl the sitemap.

    I naturally followed all the steps you suggested, but even trying to remove the previous ones and resubmitt the correct sitemap, for now the message remains the same:

    “1 error, the sitemap can be read, but it has errors, your sitemap appears to be an HTML page. Use a supported sitemap format”.

    I hope because the last reading dates back to yesterday 12 August, but if you think that next recrawl there will be a change, then I just have to wait…

    Yes, Google would see the changes once your website would be crawled again.

    I suggest you clear your website’s cache and wait for Google to crawl the website and see if the issue gets fixed.
