Google showing my homepage instead of post

When I google for one of my pages that used to show up on the first page, I am now on the sixth page and instead of linking directly to the page, it only links to my homepage. I understand ranking is a fickle thing, but how do I at least make the link go to the right post instead of just linking to the homepage?

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and sorry for any inconvenience that might have been caused due to that.

I could not find the link on the 6th page and forward, this suggests that the link could have been removed from the cache.
Could you please check if there are any coverage errors on the search console and also use the URL inspection tool to check for indexing status?

Looking forward to helping you. Thank you.

In the coverage errors page I only get “Submitted URL marked β€˜noindex’” for the pages that I selected to have noindex – such as the cart, wishlist, and profile pages

URL Inspection is all green ticks. I will try to find the result that links to the homepage and screen shot it.

It is no longer redirecting to the home page so I don’t know what went wrong there; at least it is now linking to the article correctly, although it has dropped to page 11 now. Is this all because I changed my sitemap to rank math and google needs to “get used” to it?

When I inspect the url of the second link I put in the sensitive data box, it gave me a warning that the page was a duplicate and non canonical, when I clicked on the “inspect” button a little loading bar came up and then afterwards it was all green ticks. Do I have to go through all of my pages doing this?

    Hello,

    Thanks for the follow up.

After submitting a new sitemap, it is always advisable to wait for a few days so that all the links can be fetched and updated on the index.
I can also suggest that you go through the robots meta settings to ensure no pages are set to noindex erroneously.

I hope this info helps. Thank you.
