Hello,
Thank you for contacting support, let me assist you.
The redirection module works best for paths that exist within the WordPress installation. I can suggest that you add a redirect to your .htaccess file to redirect the upload directories like so:
Redirect 410 /wp-content/upLoads
Redirect 410 /wp-content/uploads
I hope that helps and please let us know how it goes.
Cheers,
Hi Chris, thanks for the response.
I’m checking around with some additional resources and the 410 might need to be reserved for other types of SEO situations.
* It appears that a lot of traffic is coming from Google Image Search, so the 404 is occurring due to that small mistake in the spelling of upLoads. Apparently, years ago, the uploads folder duplicated itself (plugin created 2nd “upLoads” folder and WordPress starting using the newly formed folder. Now, after installing a brand new WordPress installation with new theme, plugins, etc… the proper “uploads” folder was created.
Would 410 (GONE) be the best method for this situation? Edge-case issue, would you say? 🙂
Hello,
Thanks for your reply.
You can create a 301 redirection with Regex like so:
Source: /wp-content/upLoads/(.*)
Type: RegEx
Destination: your-domain.com/wp-content/uploads/$1

Please ensure to replace “your-domain.com” with the actual domain.
Let us know how that goes.
Thanks.
Prabhat Rai, Thank you for the reply.
I appreciate you digging deeper into the /upLoads issue and this is very similar to how our /amp pages are taken care of too. After years of pushing /amp, we are in the process of 301s for all /amp as well.
Great solution, I’ll give it a try.
Best,
Jeremy
