Redirect leads to /wp-admin

#181004
  • Hello, I’m having an issue with a handful of articles that I’ve deleted and set up 301 redirects to new articles. URLs are all entered correctly and other deleted articles are properly redirected to the same new URL.

However, instead of redirecting to the new article, the redirects lead to /wp-admin, my WordPress login page.

    Appreciate any advice!

  • Hello,

Thank you for contacting Rank Math and bringing your concern to our attention. I’m sorry for the delay and for any inconvenience this issue may have caused you.

Could you please confirm if you have added the redirects using Rank Math’s redirection feature?

If so, please head over to Rank Math > General Settings > Redirections and enable the Debug Redirections to check whether the redirects you have applied are correct.

I hope that helps. Thank you, and looking forward to your update.

Hi Reinelle, thanks for the response. Yes, I’ve used the redirection feature and turned debugging on. However, when I’m logged in, it doesn’t display the debug but instead instantly redirects me to my homepage (since I’m logged in). If I try this in the incognito window, it’ll redirect to the /wp-admin login page.

    Hello,

Thank you for keeping in touch with us.

Can you please check if there are other plugins or your current theme that is conflicting with Rank Math’s redirection? You may check this troubleshooting guide to do so: https://rankmath.com/kb/check-plugin-conflicts/

Only the site admin would know and your users won’t be affected by this troubleshooting.

If you still see the issue, we might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please edit the first post on this ticket and include your WordPress & FTP logins in the designated Sensitive Data section.
    Sensitive Data Section

It is completely secure and only our support staff has access to that section. If you want, you can use the below plugin to generate a temporary login URL to your website and share that with us instead:

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/temporary-login-without-password/

You can use the above plugin in conjunction with the WP Security Audit Log to monitor what changes our staff might make on your website (if any):

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-security-audit-log/

We really look forward to helping you.

Tested the site with all plugins except RM disabled, still redirects me to /wp-admin for this specific URL. Google Search Console says “canonical URL chosen by Google… /wp-admin” could that have something to do with it? Never did anything differently compared to other redirected URLs. Please refer to the video I’ve added to the sensitive section via loom.

Let me know if that helps or if you’d need WP access.

    Hello,

Thanks for getting back and sharing the screencast.

We might need to take a closer look at the settings. Please share your WP Admin login details so we can check and assist your further.

We really look forward to helping you.
